It's Zachary's 6th Birthday Part-ay!

I'm so so glad we kept it small this year cos regardless of how "intimate" we keep it, I realise I don't know how to do small unless the guest list is short! Zachary got to invite his 6 buddies from school (all boys) plus their siblings (it came up to 9 guests in total) to our home for an everything-homemade birthday party. Even though he'd asked to have his birthday celebration at Fidgets, an indoor playgym, it was a little too pricey and I thought he'd get more play with his friends (plus, the parents wouldn't have to tail the younger ones all over the place).

His request for the theme this year was Slugterra, a Disney XD program he really enjoys. It was challenging since few people have heard of it and they didn't even sell the toys in Singapore (yet?). I managed to tweak the theme a little to a "Boys Just Wanna Have Fun" party since our guest list, save for 1 little girl, was made up of boys!

Parents' Craft Table

Zac loves crafts so that was a must - we made pom-pom poppers and cardboard swords from some corrugated cardboard I saved. I also handmade some superhero capes and masks as door gifts but I was pleasantly surprised that they were more than happy to slip into their costumes to play the party games!

We prepped Zac ahead of time and encouraged him to play the party games since he typically doesn't play party games at ANY party, even his own! We are proud that he willingly participated this time. Perhaps it was the superhero costume!

Water balloon toss - a must for target practice!

There were 3 games in total - "look ma - no hands!", water balloon toss and slug scavenger hunt. I think it was pretty awesome that everyone got to win something  at some point. The dig in the goody sack made for extra fun since everyone got something different.

Zac had a blast and so did we. God blessed us with good weather, great company and more than enough food!

Special thanks to Yi yi Mel for coming this morning to help out with our crafts table. :)

Baking For SJCK

Cookie samples

I've volunteered to bake some goodies for the Family Carnival at Zac and Eli's school on Saturday. I've mixed up a batch of batch of chocolate chip cookie dough, a batch of Anzac cookie dough and I'll work on the cupcakes tomorrow. I'm quite excited about this project since I get to try out some recipes I've tagged in my cookbooks and I get to dream up how to package them!

My Take

... On my mum-in-law's sugee cake recipe calls for allspice in place of cardamom and no brandy (coz I don't have any)! Still delicious all the same though if I have the chance, I'll add the booze next time.

Notes: This is a temperamental cake: beat it too much or sneak a peak before the timer goes off and it collapses into a volcano. Best eaten the next day, it's one of those treats that tastes better the longer you keep it. (Though its so tasty, it's hard not to gobble up every last morsel!)

Christmas Potluck Party time!

What a joy to spend the evening with close friends during this festive season. Good food, wonderful company and lots of laughter. Our potluck party was the perfect way to showcase everyone's cooking talents and I can't say enough how amazing it is to have such wonderful cooks in our midst!

One Party Down!

Our first party of the season! Len's colleagues from the Sports Council came over for a barbecue today. There were lots of new faces I hadn't seen before and it was nice to be able to meet everyone in a non-work environment.

We have 5 more parties to go before the New Year!!!!

The dessert table: Malted Milk Chocolate cake, macaroons, trifle and FRUITS!
